Who can join?

All residents living in the towns of Brandon, Leicester, and Goshen over the age of 16 are welcome to apply. Students between the ages of 16 and 18 can join our department as a Junior Firefighter. Applications are available at the Fire Station and can be picked up on Wednesday nights between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM.

What are the time requirements?

This is NOT a full time job commitment! Most of our Firefighters have full time jobs outside of the department and respond to calls in their free time. We ask that candidates be available on the second, third, and last Wednesday nights of every month from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM for training, work, and meeting nights. Outside of that, Firefighters go about their normal day until there is an emergency.

Are there any physical requirements?

No. There is a job for everyone on the fireground. If you have passion for the fire service, we can work with you to determine what it is you would be doing based on what you feel comfortable with.

Join us for a training

Our training and work nights are on the second and third Wednesday of every month at 7:00. We welcome anyone interested to join us. You will be assigned to an experienced firefighter for the night who will help to explain what we are doing and answer any questions you may have. Walk out with an application!

Fill out an application

Once you decide you want to be a Firefighter with the Brandon Fire Department, we will ask you to fill out a simple application. Your application will be reviewed by our Fire Officers and we will ask you to attend our monthly meeting held on the last Wednesday of every month.

What happens after you join?

New firefighters are given a pager, assigned turnout gear, and placed on the department as a probationary member. If you are available when the pager goes off, you will respond to the fire station where a leader will help guide you. Don't worry! You will not be going into burning buildings until you complete the National Pro-Board Firefighter course put on by the state.

How does training work?

We train once or twice per month, with an optional extra advanced training on the first Wednesdays of the month. We often will assign new firefighters to a group together so that they can get close attention from a fire leader. We ask that new candidates sign up for Firefighter Level 1 within the first year of joining.
